Wealden Horse Rescue was formed in 2010 by father and daughter team, Gordon and Vanessa, to try to help address the ever increasing number of horses and ponies who require help due to neglect or abandonment. So far we have helped seventeen equines in need - sadly not all of these cases had happy endings.
We can only accommodate a very small number of horses - partly due to time and money constraints, but partly due to our belief that all horses need our individual care and attention in order to remain happy and healthy.
We operate predominantly in the East and West Sussex areas although we have taken horses from as far afield as Birmingham, and more recently, Bristol.
Most of our rescued equines remain at our farm for life, although occasionally we do have horses and ponies available for loan to good, permanent homes. Loan homes are carefully vetted by us and all potential loaners are required to fill in our application form first; subsequent loan placements are subject to regular checks.
We will always help in cases of genuine need, neglect and/or abandonment.
Please browse our site and take a look at our current residents, take out a sponsorship of one of our horses, read our fact sheets on caring for horses, or consider making a much-needed donation to us to enable us to continue helping horses and ponies in need.
Unfortunately we are unable to open to the public at present due to insurance restrictions but we are more than happy to show individuals or small groups around by prior appointment.
